Xiaomi reportedly planning to launch 'Mi TV Stick' next month

China's Xiaomi is currently selling TVs and a media box called Mi Box S, all running on Google's Android TV operating system, in select European countries. A leaked roadmap seems to suggest that the company is planning to add a compact Mi TV Stick to its line-up for Europe next month. No further details were provided but it should be possible to deduce some details. Since Google does not allow its partners in Europe to sell TV devices based on mobile Android, we expect the Mi TV Stick to be powered by Google's Android TV platform.In other words a compact, more affordable version of the current Mi Box S - an inexpensive way to bring the Android TV user expensive to any TV equipped with an HDMI port. TV sticks are, of course, not a new concept. Besides Google's Chromecast, Amazon and Roku have for years been selling TV sticks based on FireTV and RokuOS. TV sticks are usually low-powered but fairly capable video streaming devices. However, they are not great for gaming and while Apple is focused on making its Apple TV box more powerful with each new generation, other manufacturers sometimes seem to be engaged in a race to the bottom.
