Rumor: New Apple TV 4K to feature A12X, up to 128GB storage

A new Apple TV 4K with the A12X system chip and up to 128GB of storage is "ready to ship", according to a person who has accurately leaked details in the past.

New Apple TV 4KThe current Apple TV 4K was introduced in September 2017 with an A10X chip. There have been rumors about upgraded hardware for some time.

Jon Prosser, who has accurately leaked details about products from Apple and other manufacturers in the past, has now chimed in. He claims that a new Apple TV 4K with an A12X system chip is "ready to ship". It has been developed under codename 'Neptune T1125'.

A12X is a system chip developed by Apple for iPad Pro in 2018. During the presentation, the company claimed that A12X matches Xbox One S in graphical performance. A re-binned variant (A12Z) of the chip is used in the 2020 iPad Pro.

Jon Prosser also said that the new Apple TV 4K box will have the same design and come with either 64GB or 128GB of storage capacity, which is double up compared to the current Apple TV 4K. More storage would allow users to have more games from Apple Arcade and the app store installed.

References found in a leaked version of tvOS 14 also indicate that Apple is planning to debut a new remote control, a fitness app, and expanded AirPlay 2 that allows you to set AirPlay 2 devices (such as HomePod) as permanent TV speakers. An Apple-designed game controller is also rumored.
