2020 Philips Android TVs will support DTS Play-Fi for wireless TV audio and multi-room. The company will also launch soundbars and bring DTS Play-Fi to 2019 Android TVs via an update.
Wireless TV audio
TP Vision has announced that it is teaming up with DTS to bring wireless TV audio and multi-room audio support to Philips Android TVs, soundbars, and other wireless speaker. No more audio cables required.
- "DTS Play-Fi is a premium wireless audio ecosystem for whole-home music, whole-home TV audio, and app-based private listening supporting high-resolution audio streaming and sub-millisecond playback accuracy. Compatible products, including TVs, mobile devices, sound bars, and speakers seamlessly interoperate to form a complete whole-home entertainment experience," the company said.
All 2020 Philips Android TVs will feature DTS Play-Fi and the company will bring support to 2019 Philips Android TVs via a firmware update in the second half of 2020. After that you only need WiFi.

"A complete wireless platform"
This is the "first step towards building a complete wireless connectivity platform by including DTS Play-Fi", the company said. At IFA 2020 in September, a range of new soundbars and wireless speakers with DTS Play-Fi support will be unveiled.
DTS Play-Fi supports up to 5.1 surround sound, according to the company's website. There are currently over 300 DTS Play-Fi products from 29 brands available in the market, said DTS. This includes receivers, soundbars, TVs, portable speakers, tabletop speakers, and more.
- "Besides streaming TV audio to other Play-Fi products, users can also take advantage of the DTS Play-Fi Headphones App to enjoy a private listening experience," explained DTS.
TP Vision and DTS are not the first to explore the concept of wireless audio in TVs. Bang & Olufsen and LG have partnered with WiSA to make TVs connect wirelessly to WiSA-compatible speakers, while Apple has enabled its Apple TV box to output TV stereo audio wirelessly to AirPlay-compatible speakers.
We expect to learn more details during IFA 2020.
