TCL's CSOT and JOLED have formed an alliance to "start joint-development of large-sized OLEDs for TV", printed with RGB pixels.
Printed OLED TVs
Since 2015, JOLED (or Japan OLED) has been conducting research into printed OLED displays. The panel manufacturer is currently supplying small-to-medium sized OLED panels to makers of smartphones and PC monitors.
Strapped for cash, JOLED has been seeking investment capital. Today, it announced that it will raise 20 billion Yen in capital through an investment by CSOT, which is TCL's subsidiary company for display panel manufacturing. TCL CSOT will gain 10.76% stake in JOLED.

Under the terms of the deal, the two companies are forming an alliance to develop large-sized OLED for TVs. JOLED said that it will submit its proprietary printed OLED manufacturing technology. The company envisions that its inkjet printing production method for OLED can lower costs and improve picture quality.
- "JOLED will bring its proprietary printed OLED manufacturing technology and will start joint-development of large-sized OLEDs for TV application together with TCL CSOT," the companies announced.
In contrast to LG Display's OLED TV panel, JOLED's panel use RGB pixels (red, green, blue) that can potentially increase color gamut and volume.
The companies did not comment on a timeline.
TCL is currently selling TVs based on LCD technology. Its latest LCD TV flagship uses miniLED (smaller LEDs) as a backlight. The company is also exploring a hybrid OLED/QLED technology that it refers to as 'H-QLED'.
