'Beyond a Steel Sky' is the first big game on Arcade – later on PC, consoles

Beyond a Steel Sky is the first big game on Arcade, Apple's game service for Apple TV and other devices. High-profile games may help the company make a dent in the console market.

Sequel to cult classic
26 years after the original cyberpunk adventure game Beneath a Steel Sky – a cult classic – comes Beyond a Steel Sky. It is probably an understatement to say that it has been a long-awaited release.

- "From Charles Cecil, creator of the Broken Sword series, with art direction by Dave Gibbons, legendary comic book artist behind Watchmen, comes Beyond A Steel Sky, the long awaited sequel to the cult classic Beneath a Steel Sky," said Revolution. "Beyond a Steel Sky is a dramatic, humorous, cyberpunk thriller in which engaging puzzles drive a fast-paced narrative set in a dynamic gameworld that responds to – and is subverted by – the player’s actions."



We will leave it up to you to decide if the game has been worth the wait, but the release puts Arcade on the map. It is not the first time a game debuts exclusively on Arcade before it makes its way to PS4, Xbox, Steam and Nintendo. Beyond a Steel Sky is just the first high-profile title to so.

A similar situation may occur when The Pathless arrives on Arcade later. The Pathless most recently came into the spotlight when Sony unveiled it as one of the launch titles for PlayStation 5.

Is this some kind of new normal? Time will tell but it is clear that Apple means business with Arcade and its efforts to have Apple TV double as game console in the living room.

Beyond a Steel Sky is out today on Apple Arcade that will cost you $5 per month on Apple TV after a free trial. The game will be available on Steam in July and on other consoles later.
