Xbox Game Pass will support 'xCloud' game streaming from September

Microsoft says that 'xCloud' game streaming technology will be folded into the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription service this September, letting you play Xbox games on mobile devices.

Microsoft's 'Project xCloud' is a technology for game streaming that lets you stream console games to any compatible device with an internet connection. The concept is similar to Google Stadia.

Microsoft has announced that 'xCloud' will be folded into the Game Pass Ultimate subscription service ($15 per month) starting this September. It means that you can play Xbox games included in your subscription on any compatible device, including a smartphone or tablet. Think "Netflix for games".

- "With cloud gaming in Game Pass Ultimate, you will be able to play over 100 Xbox Game Pass titles on your phone or tablet. And because Xbox Live connects across devices, you can play along with the nearly 100 million Xbox Live players around the world. So when Halo Infinite launches, you and your friends can play together and immerse yourselves in the Halo universe as Master Chief—anywhere you go and across devices," the company said.



If you are not familiar with it, Game Pass is Microsoft's subscription service for games. It recently announced that Game Pass has over 10 million subscribers. For a flat monthly fee you get access to a library of over 100 old and new games, including all new launch titles from the Xbox game studios.

Upcoming titles include Halo, Forza, Age of Empires, Gears of War, Minecraft, Hellblade, The Outer Worlds, Psychonauts, Microsoft Flight Simulator, State of Decay, Wasteland, Minecraft Dungeons and Sea of Thieves.

Microsoft has previously said that xCloud will support Windows PC, mobile Android and iOS as well as the PS4 game controller. It has yet to comment on TV platforms such as Android TV, Apple TV and various Smart TVs.
