Microsoft discontinues Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital

Microsoft is discontinuing the most powerful game console on the market today, Xbox One X, along with the inexpensive Xbox One S All-Digital as it prepares to launch next-gen console(s).

It is not uncommon to see previous consoles remain available for years after the launch of the new console generation. That will, however, not be the case with Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital.

Microsoft confirms that two of its current consoles have been discontinued. The Xbox One S All-Digital has been on the market for a little over a year. Only the Xbox One S with disc drive will remain in production.

- "As we ramp into the future with Xbox Series X, we’re taking the natural step of stopping production on Xbox One X and Xbox One S All-Digital Edition," Microsoft told The Verge. "Xbox One S will continue to be manufactured and sold globally."



In just a few months from now Microsoft and Sony will launch their next-generation consoles in the form of Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. There are rumors that Microsoft is also planning to launch a more affordable 'Xbox Series S' (known as "Lockhart"), which will be less powerful.

Microsoft will host an event next week where it is expected to talk about games. In addition, it is expected to host a hardware event sometime in August.
