LG's new GX soundbar is designed to match its GX OLED TVs

LG's new 3.1-channel soundbar will work with any TV but was designed to match its GX 'Gallery' OLED TVs. It supports optional rear speakers.

LG teased its new GX soundbar at CES 2020 and it is now rolling out across Europe, North America and Asia, the company has announced.

The soundbar is a slim 3.1-channel solution with a wireless subwoofer and a total 420W output. The system can be expanded through the company's 'wireless surround kit' (SPK8), which will give you two additional rear speakers for surround sound.



LG's GX soundbar can be connected to any TV (via HDMI ARC/eARC) but it was designed to match its GX 'Gallery' OLED TVs – hence the name. It is covered in a dark gray fabric and can hang flush to the wall or stand on top of furniture. It is 144.6 centimeters long, which corresponds to a 65-inch LG GX OLED TV.

The company touts support for Hi-Res Audio (24-bit / 96 kHz), 4K pass-through, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. However, you are unlikely to get the immersive sound experience that formats like Atmos can deliver given the limited number of speakers inside.

Like competitors such as Samsung and Sony, LG is also offering more capable Atmos soundbars with more units, including up-firing units for overhead sound. This particular soundbar was designed to be "pleasing to both ears and eyes", said LG.

LG's GX soundbar is available now for a cool $1000 / £1000.
