Microsoft reveals new Xbox Series X & One user interface, features

Microsoft is rolling out its new user interface across current- and next-gen consoles, meaning that Xbox Series X will feel familiar. The company also detailed new Xbox features.

If you are an avid Xbox gamer you have already encountered some of the changes. Microsoft recently started rolling out a new home screen, guide, and store for Xbox One.

Xbox Series X will share this look, Microsoft has confirmed, saying that "this holiday it will be shared across all Xbox mobile apps, Xbox Game Pass on PC, and of course Xbox One and Xbox Series X consoles". The new home screen will also be a lot faster and leaner.

- "Xbox Series X will set a new bar for speed when it launches this November," said Microsoft. "The Home screen will load more than 50 percent faster when you boot your Xbox, and is almost 30 percent faster to load when you’re returning from a game. Furthermore, these improvements use 40 percent less memory than what was previously required."



New Xbox mobile app
Microsoft said that it has a new Xbox mobile app in the works. It will include new share features along with an option to "quickly send messages or launch parties to keep conversations going even when they’re on the go".

- "For example, when you choose to share an update or game clip from your console, it will also automatically be sent to your Xbox mobile app, so you can share it on the social networks of your choice," added Microsoft.

While Microsoft has opted to make its next-generation consoles look and feel familiar, Sony is promising a completely redesigned PlayStation 5 dashboard with "no pixel untouched". Sony has also said that it "believes in generations" as opposed to Microsoft's more transitional approach.

Microsoft will launch Xbox Series X in November 2020. Pricing information has yet to be announced.
