Bose is introducing the new compact and more affordable Smart Soundbar 300 to complement its larger 500 and 700 models. It support AirPlay 2 and can be expanded to 5.1 surround.
Expandable to 5.1 surround
Like its more powerful and expensive 500 and 700 soundbars, the new 300 soundbar supports AirPlay 2 for music or TV audio. It also supports Spotify Connect, Bluetooth, Alexa, and Google Assistant.
As a TV speaker the compact soundbar can stand alone or be expanded to 5.1 surround sound by adding optional wireless rear speakers and/or a subwoofer. It connects to the TV via HDMI ARC or optical. It can also be used for multiroom music together with other Bose speakers or other speakers with AirPlay 2.

Like Sonos, Bose is highlighting its efforts to create spacious sound and clear dialogue in a compact enclosure.
- "The new Bose Smart Soundbar 300 delivers spacious sound, clear dialogue, and rich bass for your movies, music, and games. The acoustic architecture is specially designed to keep this new soundbar sleek and elegant," the company said.

The soundbar does not have any of the fancy new technologies such as Dolby Atmos, DTS:X or HDMI eARC, but it does not pack the power or speaker units to create immersive soundspaces either. The company has in general been hesitant to jump on the bandwagon – not even its 700 soundbar supports Atmos.
Bose's Smart Soundbar 300 can be pre-ordered now in the US for $400, with shipping set to start in mid-September. Availability and pricing details for Europe are still pending.
