PlayStation 5 will have Disney+, Netflix, Spotify & YouTube apps

Sony has yet to reveal the revamped PlayStation 5 user interface but we now know that the console will have Disney+, Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube apps – probably others too.

PS5 as a media hub
After Microsoft's missteps with Xbox One that was originally pitched as part game console, part media hub, Sony and Microsoft have both promoted PS5 and Xbox Series X/S as game consoles first and foremost.

Xbox Series X/S will come with the same refreshed user interface as Xbox One, so there is little question about its role as a media hub for streaming entertainment.

Sony on the other hand has shared almost nothing, saying only that the PS5 operating system is a "100 percent overhaul of the PS4 UI" with "some very different new concepts", and that it is "more subtle than flashy, but no pixel is untouched".



We now know that PlayStation 5 will Disney+, Netflix, Spotify, and YouTube apps. How? Well, because these four services have their own dedicated buttons on the PS5 Media Remote. Sony has just now uploaded fresh pictures of the remote to its official pre-order page. The buttons were previously depicted as empty.

4K HDR streaming support? More than likely, we would say. Dolby Vision and Atmos? Those remain open questions. We expect other streaming services to be available on PS5 too, but we will have to wait a little longer for Sony to confirm additional details.

Besides controlling PS5, the media remote will be able to adjust your TV's volume.
