'Wonder Woman 1984' will be the first movie in 4K HDR & Atmos on HBO Max

Wonder Woman 1984 will be the first movie on HBO Max that can be enjoyed in 4K HDR as well as Dolby Atmos sound. Initially, only a handful of devices will be supported.

4K HDR on HBO Max
When HBO Max launched in May 2020, we lamented the lack of 4K HDR content. The company's many amazing movies and HBO shows deserve to be presented in higher video and audio quality.

That changes on December 25, 2020, as Wonder Woman 1984 premieres on HBO Max and brings along with it support for 4K, HDR10, and Dolby Vision video streaming. The movie will also be available in Dolby Atmos sound.

WarnerMedia said that supported devices are "Apple TV 4K, Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K, Amazon Fire TV Cube and 4K Fire TV Edition smart TVs, Chromecast Ultra, AT&T TV and supported Android TV devices".

There was no mention of game consoles like Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 4, but he company promised to bring 4K HDR support to additional devices in 2021. HBO Max is also still missing on the Roku platform as well as PlayStation 5.

- "HBO Max will expand these capabilities to further films and TV series, as well as adding support for additional devices, throughout 2021," the company said.

Wonder Woman 1984 will premiere in the US on December 25 in theaters and on HBO Max. In other regions, it will debut about a week earlier exclusively in theaters.
