TikTok app launches on (some) Samsung Smart TVs in Europe
TikTok is rolling out to newer Samsung Smart TVs in Europe, starting with the UK. The launch once again highlights the Smart TV update problem.TikTok on Samsung TVs
The two companies have announced that TikTok will be available on Samsung Smart TVs in Europe, launching today in the UK and soon in other European countries. The TikTok app will be available on Samsung TVs with the Tizen platform from 2018 onwards only, despite Tizen being the platform in all Samsung Smart TVs from 2015 onwards. The South Korean company is still refusing to provide updates to previous TVs. Samsung 2017 TVs are stuck on Tizen 3.0, 2018 TVs on Tizen 4.0, and so on.The app is also missing from Samsung's rotating 'The Sero' TV but the company expects it to launch on this particular TV model in the upcoming year. No plans to make TikTok available on pre-2018 TV models were announced. - "From today, TikTok can be accessed on all Samsung Smart TV models from 2018-2020 onwards," said Samsung. "TikTok can be easily downloadable via the Samsung Smart TV App Store and will now be pre-installed onto all new Samsung TVs purchased. What’s more, content will be available for anybody to enjoy – whether you have a TikTok account or not." At this time, no other TV makers have announced plans to offer the app but we suspect that this is only the first dance.

Users will be able to view, like and comment on trending videos, giving households the opportunity to experience and enjoy TikTok’s top content. Users will also be able to block or mark content they are not interested in, with TikTok automatically operating in Restricted Mode a feature that filters out content that may not be appropriate for all audiences.
