Philips 2021 TVs will come with a sound personalization feature that allows the user to create an individual hearing profile through a hearing test on an iOS or Android mobile device.

TP Vision, the company behind Philips TVs in Europe, has partnered with Berlin-based healthcare company Mimi Hearing Technologies to bring sound personalization technology to its 2021 TV models.
- "Mimi Sound Personalization allows users to personalize their TV audio to their unique hearing profile by taking a short hearing test – on an iOS or Android handset or tablet – to create a Hearing ID profile which can then be easily synced to the television via QR code. The result is a personalised and optimized sound performance that creates a more enjoyable television experience," the companies announced ahead of the World Hearing Day.
Philips 2021 TVs will feature Mimi Sound Personalization
The two companies explain that Mimi's processing algorithm can profile more than 100 parameters. It assesses hearing ability in primarily two areas: the lowest intensity sound that the user can detect and the user's ability to process "masked" sounds, meaning the quietest sound that the user can perceive in the presence of masking sounds such as noise.
Individualized sound processing is also being applied in other TV devices and in relation to immersive audio. Most recently, Sony launched PlayStation 5 with 'Tempest Audio' that must be individualized to the gamer's hearing profile. Like Philips, Sony has explored the concept of using a mobile device to create an individual hearing profile.
The company did not say how Mimi will work when more than one person is sitting in front of the TV. The company's 2021 launch event was virtual this year due to coronavirus so FlatpanelsHD has yet to try the new Mimi feature. We hope to review some of the 2021 Philips TVs later this year.
Mimi Sound Processing will be supported in the following 2021 Philips TVs: OLED856, OLED806, OLED706, PML9506, PUS9206, PUS9006, and PUS8506.
