Sony launches new 5.1 soundbar with wireless sub & rear speakers, HT-S40R
Sony has today unveiled the HT-S40R, a soundbar with a wireless subwoofer, "wireless" rear speakers, and a wireless connection to the TV. It costs 400 Euro.5.1 soundbar system
HT-S40R is a "combination of a soundbar, subwoofer and wireless rear speakers delivers dynamic sound that fills your room", the company said. It will compete with soundbar systems from Sonos and others. - "Sony has announced the HT-S40R, a new powerful sound system, perfect for recreating a real cinema sound that fits your home. The HT-S40R has 600W of powerful and real 5.1 channel surround sound, with wireless rear speakers that bring every movie to life," said Sony.Sony explained that a compatible Sony TV can send audio wirelessly to HT-S40R via Bluetooth. The rear speakers are "wireless" in the sense that no wires are required between the front and rear. However, you will still need a wireless amplifier for the rear speakers as seen in the photo above (photo of the amplifier included at the bottom). It supports Dolby Digital audio but not modern object-based audio formats like Dolby Atmos. It has built-in Bluetooth and a USB port for music. Sony's HT-S40R will be priced at £350 in the UK and €400 in Europe. It will start shipping in May 2021.
