Steam Link now supports 8K game streaming and macOS

23 Mar 2021 | Rasmus Larsen |

Valve's latest update has added an option to stream games at 8K resolution from a computer to another device. The Steam Link app is now also available for macOS.

Big Steam update

Not many gamers will be able to take advantage of it just yet, but it is a start. The Steam client now supports 8K streaming (Remote Play) to another device with the Steam Link app installed (and 8K support). - "Added an option to stream up to 8K resolutions (results may vary depending on hardware)," the changelog reads.

In addition, Valve released its Steam Link app on macOS. The app allows users to stream games from a PC to a Mac, for example a Mac Mini connected to a TV screen. It requires macOS 10.13 or higher, and supports game controllers too. - "The Steam Link app allows you to play your Steam games across all your computers. Just pair an MFI or Steam controller to your Mac, connect to a computer running Steam on the same local network, and start playing your existing Steam games," said Valve. The Steam Link app is intended for game streaming over the home network unlike cloud gaming services like Nvidia's GeForce Now and Google Stadia. Steam Link is also available on Android TV, Apple TV, select Smart TVs and other devices.
