Movies Anywhere is now available on (some) Samsung Smart TVs

The Movies Anywhere app is now available in the US on Samsung TVs, but only on models from 2017 or later as Samsung is still refusing to update its Smart TVs.

After launching on LG webOS-based TVs last year, Movies Anywhere, the digital movie locker that links to Amazon Video, Apple iTunes, Vudu and more, is now also available as an app for Samsung Smart TVs.

However, like LG, the app is only supported on Samsung Smart TVs from 2017 or later. The South Korean company is using its in-house Tizen platform across Smart TVs from 2015 to 2021, but it is still refusing to provide updates for Tizen meaning that TVs are stuck on whatever version of Tizen that they launched with.



Movies Anywhere offers access to over 8000 movies, synced across movie libraries from multiple participating VOD services. The initiative is backed by Disney, Sony Pictures, Universal, and Warner Bros. Studios such as Paramount, Lionsgate and MGM have yet to join the initiative.

The company said that the app for Samsung TVs supports 4K HDR10 streaming.

Movies Anywhere is also available on platforms like Amazon FireTV, Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast, and Vizio SmartCast TVs.
