Samsung's new high-end 8K TVs, QN900A and QN800A, are the first TVs to obtain WiFi 6E certification, the company has announced. WiFi 6E supports 6GHz for the first time.
WiFi 6E in TVs
Last year, Samsung became the first TV maker to support WiFi 6 for faster gigabit speeds, higher capacity, and lower latency. This year, Samsung is once again first to claim support for WiFi 6E.
WiFi 6E uses the same protocol as WiFi 6 but adds support for the 6GHz frequency band for the first time, in addition to 2.4GHz and 5 GHz used in WiFi 5 and WiFi 6. To take advantage of the less crowded 6GHz spectrum, your router (and other devices that connect to the TV) must also support WiFi 6E.
- "Following the decision by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission to open 1200 MHz of 6 GHz spectrum for Wi-Fi use, the U.K., Europe, Chile, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates have also made the decision to deliver 6 GHz for Wi-Fi. Countries including Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Peru, Taiwan, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Myanmar, and Jordan are quickly progressing towards opening 6 GHz for unlicensed operation" the Wi-Fi Alliance said in January 2021.

Samsung said that its 2021 "Neo QLED" 8K LCD TVs, specifically QN900A and QN800A, have earned the certification.
- "Today, Samsung Electronics has announced that its 2021 Neo QLED 8K TV models (QN900A, QN800A) have earned the world’s first Wi-Fi 6E certification from the Wi-Fi Alliance (WFA)," announced Samsung.
