Samsung is ditching its Tizen OS on smartwatches in favor of Google's operating system, but the company insists that it no plans to abandon Tizen in TVs.
Tizen's future
In 2014, Samsung introduced Tizen as the "operating system for everything". At Google's annual developer conference last week, Google and Samsung announced that Samsung will ditch Tizen in favor of Google Wear OS in wearables.
The decision led to speculation about Samsung's larger plans for Tizen, which is also powering all of the company's Smart TVs.
The company has now responded.
- "Tizen still is the default platform for our smart TVs going forward," a Samsung spokesperson told Protocol.

Tizen is powering Samsung Smart TVs
Tizen is powering over 100 million Samsung TVs. In 2019, Samsung also made it available to other TV manufacturers under license but it has yet to sign up any partners.
The dream of making Tizen the OS for everything has not materialized but it will – for now – live on in TVs, cameras, and appliances.
