Hitachi launches Q-series of 43-65" 4K Android TVs in Europe

The new Hitachi TVs are the latest in a wave of Android TVs coming to Europe this year. Through its partnership with Google it can offer access to streaming apps like Amazon and Netflix as well as built-in features like Chromecast. - "The range is an important step forward in delivering exceptional picture quality for TV," said Jim Beswick, TV Product Manager, Hitachi Europe. "With Quantum Dot Colour, the Q series can offer a visibly better picture, unlocking more colour, and definition for all the 4K HDR content that is now being produced. This feature, together with our other image and audio technologies make it easy and attainable to create a more deeply immersive viewing experience in any home."The 43, 50, 55, and 65-inch LCD TVs feature an LED backlight and a quantum dot filter for 90% DCI-P3 coverage, although there is no mention of zone dimming capabilities. The TVs also support HDR10 and Dolby Vision, the company said.
Google partnership
The TVs will compete in the mid-range segment with LCD models from the likes of LG, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, TCL, Xiaomi. LG and Samsung have their own TV platforms but many other TV brands in Europe have chosen to partner with Google who has seen momentum for Android TV pick up in recent years. Hitachi did not specify the Android TV version or its plans for Google TV.Other highlighted features include 2x10W speakers with a subwoofer, DTS HD support, and three HDMI 2.0 ports. The Hitachi Q-series TVs will be available in the majority of Europe including France, Italy, Spain, and Germany, but not the UK. Pricing details were not announced but Hitachi said that the models will be "affordable mid-range" when they arrive later this summer.
