TCL X925 and X925 Pro

As first reported by FlatpanelsHD in January 2021, TCL Europe was planning to launch its second-generation 8K TVs this year. At a virtual launch event today, the company formally launched the X925 8K TVs . - "TCL is proud to realize our ambition of being a true leader in Mini LED TVs. The incredible performance of the X Series TVs is due to TCL Mini LED technology and both the X92 Pro Series and X92 Series are well positioned to lead the premium LED TV market," said Shaoyong Zhang, CEO of TCL Electronics. The X925 models are TCL Europe's first with Google TV, which is the new user interface that runs atop Android TV. You get access to popular streaming apps like Amazon, Disney+ and Netflix. There is also built-in Chromecast and Google Assistant.

The 85-inch X925 Pro has "thousands of dimming zones" as part of its 'OD Zero miniLED' system whereas the 75- and 65-inch X925 models have "hundreds of dimming zones". 'OD Zero' is not the same approach as the 'Vidrian' technology that TCL previously announced. OD Zero has the miniLED backlight and LCD panel separate whereas Vidrian has the miniLEDs mounted directly onto the LCD glass

2nd-gen TCL 8K TVs

X925 represents TCL's second generation of 8K LCD TVs. The TVs will compete with Samsung and Sony's 8K LCD TVs as well as LG's 8K LCD and 8K OLED TVs. There is still a dearth of 8K content and the leading streaming services remain mum on the matter. X925 supports AV1 decoding for YouTube's 8K but that it unlikely to keep you entertained for long. The TVs are powered by the company's AIPQ video engine and come with HDMI 2.1 ports for 4K120, eARC, ALLM, and VRR (up to 120Hz) including AMD FreeSync. The TVs support multiple HDR formats (HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, Dolby Vision IQ). The 85-inch model comes equipped with a powerful 5.1.2-channel 160W Onkyo soundbar while the two smaller X925 models have built-in Onkyo speakers. The TVs support Dolby Atmos decoding and output. We are chasing pricing details and more information.
