Movies Anywhere app comes to Xbox

16 Sep 2021 | Rasmus Larsen |

Movies Anywhere, the digital movie locker service for the US, is now available on Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles, with support for up to 4K Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos streaming.

Movies Anywhere on Xbox

After a recent expansion to Smart TVs from LG, Samsung and Vizio, the Movies Anywhere app is now also available on Xbox game consoles from Microsoft – but not yet Sony's PlayStation. Movies Anywhere is a digital movie locker that links to Amazon Video, Apple TV (iTunes), Google Play Movies, Microsoft Movies, and Vudu. Movies from Disney, Sony Pictures, Universal, and Warner Bros purchased on any of the aforementioned VOD services will show up in the Movies Anywhere app. Paramount, Lionsgate and MGM have yet to join the initiative.

The Movies Anywhere app is available on Xbox One, Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. Xbox consoles, except the original Xbox One, support streaming from Movies Anywhere in up to 4K Dolby Vision (and HDR10) as well as Dolby Atmos. The Xbox app also supports the service's new Watch Together and Screen Pass features. Movies Anywhere was launched in 2017 and is available only in the US, with no announced plans for an international expansion.
