LG has made a scaled-down version of webOS available to other TV brands who will soon be able to offer Disney+, Vudu, Pandora, HBO Max and Sling TV apps.

LG Electronics' webOS is now powering TVs from Advance, Ayonz, Blaupunkt, Daiwa, Dualshine, Eko, JSW, Konka, Manta, Polaroid, RCA, Seiki, Silicon Player, Skytech, Skyworth, and Xianyou. More than 20 partners have committed to the project, according to LG.
- "To expand access to its popular TV platform to more consumers worldwide and strengthen its presence in the TV industry, LG made its advanced webOS platform available to other TV brands starting this year. As both a manufacturer as well as an operating system developer, LG is now better able to deliver its vision for an easier, more streamlined content viewing experience to a wider audience," LG said in a press release.
Five streaming apps
However, 'powered by webOS' is not the same webOS experience as in LG's own TVs, and many apps are still missing. LG is trying to rectify the situation by bringing a handful of popular apps to its partners' TVs.
- "From September through the end of this year, support will be added for a number of premium content services, including Disney+, Vudu, Pandora, HBO Max and Sling TV," the company announced.
The Disney+ app will be available in all markets where the service is currently online. HBO Max is currently limited to a few regions but will start its expansion into Europe later this month and next year.
Vudu is available only in the US and will offer "4K Ultra HD with support for Dolby image and audio enhancing technologies" on powered by webOS TVs, said LG.
