TikTok is expanding its presence to TV screens with the launch of TikTok TV on major platforms from Google, LG, and Samsung, in addition to Amazon's Fire TV, in the US and Canada.
Vertical video, horizontally
TikTok said that over a billion people use its service worldwide and starting this month the service's vertical videos can be enjoyed on a horizontal TV screen too, with 'For You', 'Discover', and 'Following' feeds.
- "Earlier this month we launched TikTok TV in the US and Canada with Amazon Fire TV as our first partner, and today we're excited to bring the TikTok TV app to Google TV and other Android TV OS devices, LG Smart TVs, and Samsung Smart TVs," TikTok announced.
The app was already supported on the same platforms in parts of Europe such as the UK, France and Germany. Note that the app will be available only on 2018+ LG TVs (webOS 4.0 or later).
The launch is part of TikTok's plan to make the service more widely available and increase ad revenue to better compete with Google's YouTube and Facebook's services.
