Viaplay will initially be available on Comcast devices for $5/month with access to over 1100 hours of serie and movies, and later as a standalone streaming service with apps.
Nordic streaming service
Viaplay is currently available in 10 countries and will expand to the US today, December 15. It will expand further to the Netherlands in March 2021, the UK in the second half of 2021, and Canada, Germany, Austria and Switzerland by the end of 2023 at the latest.
- "At launch, Viaplay will host more than 1,100 hours of premium Nordic series and films, both new and classic, with a focus on thrillers, drama and young adult content. Viewers can look forward to at least one premiere every week, with Viaplay aiming to release at least 60 Originals in 2022," announced Viaplay.
NENT-owned Viaplay has a strong presence in its Nordic home countries where it competes head-to-head with Disney+, Netflix, and other local and international streaming services.
- "Our small corner of Europe produces some of the world’s most compelling stories. We create special shows that have both style and substance, and that have been embraced by audiences and critics. At the same time, Hollywood stars like Mads Mikkelsen and Alicia Vikander have helped put the Nordic region even more firmly on the map," said Anders Jensen, NENT Group President and CEO.
- "There is a receptive audience of Nordic drama fans waiting in the US for Viaplay’s unique offering, which will bring the best of Nordic storytelling to the world’s most dynamic streaming market."
Content will be available with English subtitles.
At launch today, Viaplay will be available on Comcast’s Xfinity X1, Xfinity Flex, and XClass TV as an add-on for $5 per month. It will launch as a standalone streaming service with apps in the US later.
