Disney+ has updated its app to include support for Apple's new SharePlay system so subscribers on Apple TV, iPad, and iPhone can watch movies and series together from afar.
Disney+ SharePlay
Apple rolled out SharePlay for Apple TV+ and iTunes with tvOS and iOS 15.1, and Disney+ is now also onboard. SharePlay is an Apple-specific option from Disney, which already offers its so-called GroupWatch feature – which will remain available.
- "We’re very excited to launch SharePlay on Disney+ for Apple users in time for the holidays and ahead of several highly-anticipated premieres," said Jerrell Jimerson, EVP of Product & Design, Disney Streaming. "With thousands of movies and shows and a growing content catalog of new titles and originals, SharePlay provides another opportunity for personal friends and family around the world to come together and create new memories with their favorite stories on Disney+."

SharePlay requires the latest Disney+ app update. It is supported globally and works across the entire Disney+ content catalog from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and more, the company said.
To use SharePlay you must initiate a FaceTime call (up to 32 people supported), open the Disney+ app and select content. You will now be prompted to start a SharePlay session. Afterwards on Apple TV, bring up the control center and click the SharePlay button as shown below, or follow the instructions in the table.
Each participant can choose audio, language and subtitles settings.
SharePlay is also supported in the Paramount+ and Showtime apps, and will soon be supported in apps like HBO Max, Hulu, MasterClass, Pantaya, Pluto TV, and Starz.
