The first QD-OLED monitors will arrive in 2022 with the Samsung's Odyssey G8QNB and Dell's Alienware AW3423DW. With 3440x1440 pixels, 175Hz refresh rate, and 0.1 ms response time.
First QD-OLED monitors
Samsung's first QD-OLED monitor will have significantly lower response time than its new 240Hz LCD monitor. That is because it uses OLED technology, specifically Samsung Display's QD-OLED. Each pixel – or LED – generates its own light so in essence you have over 4,8 million ultra-fast "dimming zones".
FlatpanelsHD reported on Samsung's plans to launch QD-OLED monitors in November 2020 and while it has not been formally announced by the company yet, a CES Innovation Award has just confirmed its existence. It will be known as the Samsung Odyssey G8QNB.
It is a 34-inch curved QD-OLED panel with 3440x1440 pixels, 175Hz refresh rate, and 0.1 ms response time, according to the award announcement. The panel delivers 99% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut.
Dell's QD-OLED monitor
Dell has confirmed that they will also launch a 34-inch QD-OLED monitor in the form of the Alienware AW3423DW. This too has won a CES Award. It supports 175Hz refresh over DisplayPort or up to 100Hz refresh over HDMI 2.0. It also supports Nvidia G-SYnc. It is the same panel so it will be interesting to see pricing.
Brightness was not specified but Dell's version has been certified as 'DisplayHDR 400 True Black' so peak brightness should exceed 400 nits while full-screen brightness should exceed 250 nits.
Samsung has yet to comment on availability but Dell expects its QD-OLED monitor to ship starting in March. Pricing will be announced later.
