The launch of Samsung's first QD-OLED monitor just got even more exciting after Dell Alienware confirmed that its QD-OLED monitor will cost $1299. Here is everything we know so far.
Samsung 34" G8QNB
The monitor has yet to be officially announced by Samsung but the first confirmed details emerged during CES 2022. It will be a 34-inch curved gaming monitor with UWQHD resolution (3440x1440 pixels).
At this time, there is only one QD-OLED monitor panel in mass production. The 34-inch QD-OLED panel is specified by Samsung Display to deliver up to 250 nits fullscreen brightness, up to 1000 nits peak brightness, 80.7% Rec.2020 color gamut, the widest viewing angle of any monitor, 10-bit color depth, and true black.

We have the first product photo too and Samsung's QD-OLED monitor certainly looks less spacey than Dell's Alienware QD-OLED monitor. It has a 1800R curvature and will, according to Samsung, be the world's slimmest gaming monitor measuring just 5.9mm at the thinnest point. This is possible because there is no backlight in a QD-OLED display, which is made up of self-emitting blue OLEDs with quantum dot converters for red and green.

The gaming monitor will refresh at up to 175Hz and has an extremely fast response time of just 0.1 ms – much faster than any LCD monitor on the market. Samsung Display has said that the panel should certify to both Nvidia G-Sync Ultimate and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro but we await HDR and VRR specifications as well as information on ports in the actual monitor.
The panel has burn-in protection in the form of Real-time ISC (Image Sticking Correction) and Samsung Display claims that the burn-in risk is lower with QD-OLED than with LG Display's WOLED.
In addition, it will come with built-in smart features relating to gaming, entertainment and productivity.
When and how much? We wouldn't be surprised to see the 34-inch Samsung Odyssey G8QNB come in at around the same price or possibly less than the Dell Alienware AW3423DW, which will launch this quarter for $1299. We will report back as soon as we know for certain.
