Sony's answer to Xbox Game Pass, internally called "Spartacus", will have three subscription tiers at $10, $13 and $16 per month, according to a report by VentureBeat.
Sony's Spartacus
Sony is planning to merge PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now later this year to compete head-to-head with Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass, Bloomberg reported last year.
VentureBeat now claims to have additional information about Sony's plans.
- "Spartacus is an evolution of PlayStation Plus with three tiers. It currently calls those tiers Essential, Extra, and Premium — although those names could change between now and when the service launches. The subscription for these programs is monthly and starts at $10 and goes up to $16," the report said.
PlayStation Plus 'Essential' will basically mirror PlayStation Plus today, while the $13/month 'Extra' tier adds a game catalog and the $16/month 'Premium' tier adds game streaming, classic games, and game trials.
| Monthly games | Game catalogue | Streaming | Classic games | Game trials | Price |
---|
PS+ Essential | X | | | | | $10 |
PS+ Extra | X | X | | | | $13 |
PS+ Premium | X | X | X | X | X | $16 |
No day-one Sony releases
The report also claims that Sony will not include full versions of its blockbuster games on day one. However, game trials may let gamers try the games before they decide to buy.
For comparison, Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass starts at $10/month for access to over 100 console games and $15/month to get access to extra features such as game streaming capabilities.
Sony's Spartacus game service is apparently moving into a testing phase in the next few weeks and the company could announce official details later in March, according to the report.
