Apple made history at the annual Academy Awards show where CODA was awarded a Best Picture Oscar for the first time for a streaming service.
Apple beats Netflix
Netflix has yet to claim an Oscar for Best Picture. This year, the streaming giant showed up with two nominated films in the top category, Don’t Look Up and Power of the Dog.
But it was Apple TV+, not Netflix, that became the first streaming service to win an Oscar for Best Picture with CODA, which took home a total of three Oscars.

It has been so rewarding to share this life-affirming, vibrant story, which reminds us of the power of film to bring the world together."
CODA is available to stream on Apple TV+ that has a free 7-day trial after which it costs $5 per month.

Dune wins Best Cinematography
Sci-fi epic Dune won the most awards, a total of 6, in categories such as best cinematography, sound, visual effects and score.
Disney's Encanto won the Oscar for best animated movie.
The winners are found amongst the nominated titles by having the academy's roughly 8000 members cast votes. The 2022 ceremony honored movies released in 2021.
This year's Academy Awards show also took an unexpected turn when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock in the face after Rock had made a joke about Smith's wife's hair loss (Jada Pinkett Smith).
