The first real alternative to LG's OLED technology has arrived in Europe. After an early launch in the US, Samsung S95B is now also available in the UK, Germany and other European countries.
Almost 10 years after Samsung launched its first OLED TV in a project that was soon after abandoned due to production issues, the South Korean company is back in the game to compete against hometown rival LG.
Samsung's QD-OLED uses blue OLED combined with quantum dots for red and green, which is a different approach than LG's WOLED (or WRGB).
Samsung S95B got an early March launch in the US but Europe had to wait as Samsung Display is still ramping up production. The TV is now available in the first European countries and is expected to be more widely available in Europe in the coming weeks and months.
S95B features 4K resolution, HDR10+ and four HDMI 2.1 ports as well as Samsung's portfolio of 'smart' features and streaming apps based on the Tizen operating system, which has a redesigned fullscreen UI. For the first time in a Samsung TV, Dolby Atmos is supported for internal playback through a 2.2.2ch speaker system or output via eARC. There is still no support for Dolby Vision.

All current OLED TVs on the consumer market use LG Display's WOLED panel so QD-OLED brings much-needed competition to the self-emissive display segment at a time where LCD – the only other TV display technology – still holds a dominant share but is fading.
