Sony is drip releasing details about PlayStation VR2 and has now revealed that the headset will feature a Cinematic Mode with a virtual cinema screen for movies and non-VR games.
Like some other VR headsets, Sony's upcoming PlayStation VR2 will let you enjoy movies when you are not playing VR games. As opposed to the headset's VR Mode, Cinematic Mode will let the user open PS5's media apps such as Apple TV+, Disney+ and Netflix on a flat virtual cinema screen.
- "In Cinematic Mode, players can view the PS5 system and UI and all non-VR game and media content on a virtual cinema screen. Content in Cinematic Mode will be displayed in 1920x1080 HDR video format with 24/60Hz and also 120Hz frame rate," announced Sony.
The company has not released pictures of the new Cinematic Mode.

In 1080p HDR, up to 120Hz
PS VR2 is equipped with an OLED display with 2000x2040 pixels per eye, which Sony refers to as 4000x2040 resolution. For media content it will display in 1920x1080 Full HD. Movies, series and other videos can be displayed in 24Hz, 60Hz or 120Hz.
Unlike Meta's Quest 2 with its LCD panel, the OLED panel in PS VR2 will let gamers enjoy very high contrast and HDR (High Dynamic Range) content with expanded dynamic range and color gamut. In addition, PS VR2 features built-in speakers with support for 3D audio.
Sony also revealed that PS VR2 will let you see your surroundings while wearing the headset with a new see-through mode that uses the headset's front cameras. In addition, the headset can use its cameras to scan the room and give a warning if you approach the boundaries.
