HDMI 2.1 VRR and ALLM finally arrive on Yamaha's AV receivers

26 Aug 2022 | Rasmus Larsen |

After adding HDMI 2.1 support for 4K120 and 8K60 passthrough in April, Yamaha is now adding VRR and ALLM through a new firmware update. QMS and QFT are still missing.

The firmware update that adds VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) and ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode) is now available to download via the MusicCast app for Yamaha's RX-V4A, RX-V6A, RX-A2A, RX-A4A, RX-A6A, and RX-A8A receivers, according to a report by What Hi-Fi.

It took about a year for Yamaha to add the promised 4K120 and 8K60 features to its second-generation HDMI 2.1 AV receivers that followed the faulty first-generation models, and almost one and a half year to add VRR and ALLM for gaming with PS5 and Xbox consoles or PC. HDMI 2.1's QMS (Quick Media Switching) and QFT (Quick Frame Transport) will be added through a later firmware update – no timeframe announced. That's one more step closer to functional HDMI 2.1 receivers. - Source: What Hi-Fi
