The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power premieres today starting at 6:00 pm PDT / 9:00 pm EDT in America and tomorrow in Europe, Asia, Australia and other regions.
The first season of The Rings of Power is the most expensive season of television created to date and has cost Amazon roughly $715 million if you include both the production costs and cost of rights, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The epic series will be available to stream on Primevideo.com here and across platforms such as Android TV, Apple TV, FireTV, Roku and Smart TVs from various brands in HDR. Amazon has so far made no mention of 4K. Update: 4K, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, too.
Back in 2017, Netflix and HBO were in the bidding but ultimately Amazon secured the rights to the fantasy series based on J.R.R Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and its appendices. The series unfolds in the Second Age of Middle-Earth thousands of years before the events in Peter Jackson's six film.

2 episodes at launch
Two episodes are released on premiere day with six more to follow weekly on Thursdays/Fridays until October 14. We refer to the timings in the table below. Amazon has confirmed that season 2 will start filming in October.
With The Rings of Power premiering in most countries around the world, Amazon is hoping to get especially international viewers to subscribe to its video streaming service, which recently received a facelift and a price hike. Globally, Prime Video competes with Apple TV+ and Netflix, and in many regions also HBO Max, Disney+ and other international or regional services.
Prime Video requires an Amazon Prime membership that is available for $15 per month after a free 30-day trial.
