If you own a recent Sony TV and live in one of the launch regions, the Bravia Core app now lets you buy and rent movies in video quality close to UHD Blu-ray.
In 2021, Sony launched the Bravia Core streaming service on its own 'Bravia XR' models, promising over 300 movies from Sony Pictures in the highest streaming quality available from any service. The Bravia Core app is also available on Sony 2022 models.

Sony TV owners have received movie credits redeemable for new studio releases as well as access to a catalog of older movies. There has been no option to rent or buy new studio releases after your movie credits are used up, but that changes now for users in some countries.
- "For those who have exhausted their movie credits, BRAVIA CORE opens up the possibility to buy and rent selected movies, so that they can continue to enjoy some of the best blockbusters and classics in the highest streaming picture quality of Pure Stream technology, achieving near lossless UHD BD equivalent quality with streaming up to 80 Mbps," announced Sony.
Six countries now – more later
The option to buy and rent movies is available now in the UK, Germany, France, Spain, Poland and Sweden. Sony said that "more countries will be confirmed later".
In these regions, Bravia Core recently added studio releases such as Morbius, Uncharted, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and Cinderella.
Bravia Core streams movies in up to 80Mbps bitrate but there is a caveat. Sony TVs are equipped with a 100 Mbps Ethernet port that will oftentimes not let you get the full streaming quality (due to overhead / pre-buffering), as discussed in our review of the Sony A90J OLED TV. For full streaming quality from Bravia Core you need to rely either on the TV's WiFi connection or buy a USB Gigabit Ethernet hub for your Sony TV.
Bravia Core also offers movies in the IMAX Enhanced aspect ratio and DTS audio.
