The OLED display prototype can expand from 13 inches to 17 inches by manually pulling the frame. Samsung Display calls it "the world's first slidable 17-inch display for PC".
OLED continues to redefine the display industry with curved, bendable, rollable, foldable, stretchable, and now also slidable displays that maintain excellent picture quality. Some of these concepts have already been commercialized in consumer products while others are still prototypes.
Samsung Display's slidable OLED falls in the latter category. It was shown off at Intel's 2022 Innovation Forum to illustrate what will be possible in the future.
The OLED can be transformed from a 13-inch to a 17-inch display by manual force; a type of convertible PC / tablet. Samsung Display's slidable OLED technology will be branded 'Slidable Flex'.
- "Sometimes you need a larger screen," said JS Choi, CEO of Samsung Display. "(It is) the future trend of PCs."
