Almost two years after the launch of PlayStation 5, Disney+ has released a native PS5 app that supports streaming in 4K resolution with HDR.
PlayStation 5 shares media apps with PlayStation 4. The apps work but are not necessarily optimized for PlayStation 5. This has been the case with Disney+ which has until now been limited to HD resolution.
Starting this week, Disney+ is available as a new native app for PS5. It can be downloaded from the Media section on the console.
- "A key part of our global expansion strategy is to meet consumers wherever they are, which is why we’re excited to enhance Disney+ for PlayStation 5 users," said Jerrell Jimerson, EVP of Product & Design, Disney Streaming. "The ability to support 4K HDR video streaming on the platform will also improve the viewing experience for fans."
The new Disney+ app does not support Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos as PlayStation 5 lacks support for Dolby's latest formats.
While it is good news to see Disney+ make improvements to its app, you really shouldn't use a console for video streaming. Why? Read this.
