Five Bang & Olufsen products will be updated to support Matter

06 Oct 2022 | Rasmus Larsen |

The launch of Matter is imminent and luxury brand Bang & Olufsen has confirmed to FlatpanelsHD that its products based on the 'Mozart' platform will get updated.

Matter is a new connectivity protocol that aims to achieve interoperability across ecosystems, products, and brands by using Ethernet, WiFi, and Thread as well as Bluetooth for setup. It is royalty-free, can eliminate hubs, uses a self-healing mesh network, and even works without internet.

Matter can work within existing 'smart home' platforms and Bang & Olufsen, which has operated its own smart home platform for decades, is planning to add support.

- "Interoperability is a core pillar of Bang & Olufsen’s R&D strategy. Through the Mozart platform our software team ensures products are compatible with key ecosystems. Matter is an important future standard for secure and reliable interoperability of smart home devices. All Mozart products will support Matter bi-directionally," Lyle Clarke, Director of Human Interface Design at Bang & Olufsen, told FlatpanelsHD.

- "This means Mozart products can be controlled by Matter enabled smart home apps and controllers, and Bang & Olufsen products can send commands to Matter enabled devices, such as lights and curtains, through the Favourite buttons found on all Mozart products and Bang & Olufsen remote controls."

All five products will get a firmware update later.
