Roku launches new sports hub on TVs and streaming players

11 Nov 2022 | Rasmus Larsen |

The new sports hub aggregates pro and college football, pro and college basketball, hockey, baseball, and soccer directly on the Roku homescreen.

Roku says that the 'sports experience' is designed to make it easier to find matches without having to click through multiple apps. It is rolling out to Roku TVs and Roku streaming players in the US.

- "Today, we’re excited to announce an all-new Sports experience that gives you easy access to live and upcoming sports across the Roku platform and introduces a centralized location for browsing sports content and seeing where it’s available to watch," the company announced.

Unlike Amazon and Apple, Roku is no acquiring rights to major sports leagues but instead aggregating matches from partner apps.

At launch, the sports hub integrates with DIRECTV, Fox Sports, FuboTV, Paramount+, Peacock, Prime Video, Sling, The Roku Channel, TNT, TBS, and truTV, as well as games coming over the air through an antenna connected to a Roku TV. In addition, Roku will offer free sports content such as the talk show The Rich Eisen Show. In addition, Roku users can use search, text or voice, to find specific games, leagues, teams and schedules. Roku says that it will launch more sports-content offerings later this year.
