Your Smart TV most likely has a MediaTek chip inside. The company claims be the leading chip provider for TVs with +60% share of the global Smart TV silicon market.
The data was shared at the annual MediaTek Summit in California, according to market analyst Avi Greengart.
Over 2 billion TVs use a MediaTek chip. The company also designs WiFi and Bluetooth chips so even if the Smart TV is not powered by a MediaTek SoC it can still use a companion chip for wireless functions.
This includes TV models from Samsung, Sony, Panasonic, Philips, TCL and Xiaomi. You can see which SoC is used in a given TV model in FlatpanelsHD's TV Database.
Another prominent supplier of TV chips is Realtek, used in some of TCL's TV models. Apple and Nvidia design their own chips for Apple TV 4K and Nvidia Shield, respectively.
MediaTek said that 4K120 gaming (on PS5 and Xbox Series X) and streaming drove TV sales during the pandemic while "8K TV shipments were moderated" partly due to there being no big events to drive 8K demand. The company believes that gaming and HDR will continue to drive TV sales.

Sony on stage
Kazuo Kii, Executive Deputy President of Sony Corporation, was on stage to talk about Sony's long collaboration with MediaTek.
He emphasized that MediaTek has helped Sony target the high-end segment of the TV market and that it played a key role in Sony's transition from HD to 4K TVs.

Sony's current TVs use the MediaTek MT5895 (MT9950) SoC and future TVs are prime candidates for the new Pentonic 1000 announced last week. The 12nm chip supports up to four HDMI 2.1 ports.
MediaTek said last week that the first Smart TVs powered by the Pentonic 1000 will be "available in the market by Q1 2023".
