Apple TV & Apple Music apps (preview) are now available on Windows

12 Jan 2023 | Rasmus Larsen |

The Apple TV app provides access to TV+ content and the iTunes movie library in up to 4K HDR while the Apple Music app provides access to Apple Music and your music library.

In October 2022, Apple and Microsoft announced a partnership to bring Apple's apps to Windows 11 in late 2022 in preview. We had to wait a little longer but here they are. 'Preview' means that they are still in beta and that "not all features may work as expected".

- "After installing the Apple TV / Apple Music preview, iTunes will no longer open, and audiobooks or podcasts on this device will be inaccessible until a compatible version of iTunes is released. To revert back to iTunes, you’ll need to uninstall this version of the app," said Apple.

If you can live with this limitation go ahead (your Windows 11 region must be set to US right now):

The Apple TV app provides access to TV+ subscription content, Apple TV channels including Paramount+ and Showtime, and the iTunes movie library including your purchases/rented movies (Library tab). NFL Friday Night Baseball and Major League Soccer (MLS) is/will also be available from within the app's sports section. Apple says that it will support up to 4K HDR streaming but there is no mention of HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, and FlatpanelsHD does not have capable Windows 11 devices readily available (any input is appreciated). The Apple Music app provides access to Apple Music and your music library. However, syncing media to Apple Devices now requires another app called Apple Devices which has also been made available in preview for Windows 11. Lossless music streaming works. Dolby Atmos does not work on either of the apps, and AirPlay is not supported either. With the launch of the Windows versions, Apple's media apps are soon available on all major platforms. The Apple TV app is rumored to also launch on mobile Android soon – it is already available on Android TV.
