Philips is still evaluating QD-OLED TV technology but the company has decided to focus on MLA WOLED for its high-end TVs this year. There is no 'OLED938' planned either.
In the past, Philips has typically unveiled TV models for the first half of the year at its own event in January/February and launched additional high-end models at IFA in August / September. However, what was announced in Amsterdam this week is the full TV line-up for 2023, the company said.
Danny Tack, Senior Director of Product Strategy and Planning, specifically said that the decision not to launch QD-OLED TVs is due to LG Display's new improved WOLED panel with MLA (Micro Lens Array) that delivers higher full-screen and peak brightness, improved energy efficiency, and wider viewing angles.
Only Philips' OLED908 features the MLA panel, while OLED808 and OLED708 feature the same panels as the 2022 models, i.e. WOLED EX and WOLED.

Maybe next year
Danny Tack said that Philips continues to evaluate QD-OLED and that such TVs could still arrive next year. The Philips organization has already unveiled a QD-OLED monitor.
In addition, the company confirmed that there is no 'OLED938' planned for 2023 as a successor to last year's OLED937 with the more powerful detached Bowers & Wilkins speaker system. OLED908 will still offer a B&W sound system but it is a less powerful 3.1ch configuration.
