For the 17th year in a row, Samsung topped the global TV market in 2022, according to data from market research firm Omdia.
In 2006, Samsung launched its 'Bordeaux' line of LCD TVs which helped it jump to the number one spot on the TV market. Samsung was one of two South Korean TV makers – the other one being LG – that successfully challenged Japan's tight grip on the market.
Samsung said that it sold 9.65 million "QLED" and "Neo QLED" LCD TVs in 2022. However, that does not say much considering that the marketing term "QLED" ranges from cheap edge-lit LCD TVs to premium LCD TVs with miniLED zone dimming. Some of Samsung's lifestyle LCD TVs models such as The Frame are also categorized as "QLED".
The company highlighted a few numbers from Omdia's report:
- "Samsung also dominated the ultra-large TV market segment in 2022, reporting a 36.1% and 42.9% market share for TVs over 75-inches and 80-inches respectively. For the premium TV market priced over $2,500, Samsung retained the largest market share by revenue at 48.6%."

The full report from Omdia was not published. LG has for the past many years been in the second spot while China's TCL has been climbing the charts fast. However, it depends on how you measure; by TV revenue, profits or units, and what segment of the TV market.

Samsung launched its first 'lifestyle' TV models in 2016 with The Serif, its first 8K LCD TVs in 2018, and its first QD-OLED TVs in 2022. The company is also working to bring its first LED TVs to the market, marketed as 'Micro LED'.
