For the first time, TCL has taken the second spot in global TV shipments, according to market research firm Omdia. Global TV shipments were down 4.8% in 2022.
Earlier this week, Samsung announced that it had managed to retain the top spot in the global TV market in 2022 for the 17th year in a row, based on Omdia's market data.
We now have Omdia market data on the top-5 via Business Korea. Samsung ranked first in terms of units sales with a 19.6% market share, TCL second (11.7%), LG third (11.69%), Hisense fourth (10.5%), and Xiaomi fifth (6.2%), meaning that 3 of the top-5 are now Chinese TV brands. Sony was the seventh largest TV maker as ranked by TV unit sales.
- "TCL’s win over LG Electronics began in the third quarter of 2022. TCL’s market share in the third quarter arrived at 12.6 percent, surpassing LG Electronics (11.5 percent) for the first time. In the fourth quarter, TCL (11.8 percent) ranked second, Hisense (11.6 percent) third, and LG Electronics (11.0 percent) fourth. LG Electronics was relegated to fourth place," reported BusinessKorea.
However, in terms of revenue (as opposed to unit sales) LG remained ahead of TCL in 2022. Samsung ranked first with a 29.7% revenue share, LG second (16.7%), and TCL third (9.4%). This is because Samsung and LG sell a larger percentage of premium models such as OLED TVs and miniLED LCD TVs than TCL does.
Global TV shipments were down 4.8% last year versus 2021 due to lower demand in major markets such as North America and Europe.
