On top of its existing premium UDP800 player, Magnetar is adding a new flagship UDP900 with 7.1 RCA analog outputs, an upgraded board, and a dual power supply.
This one is for disc collector enthusiasts who seek a player to handle both video and audio discs – and who are prepared to pay a premium price. It will compete with other high-end UHD Blu-ray players such as the Panasonic UB9000.
Magnetar UDP900
Compared to the existing Magnetar UDP800, UDP900 now has additional output ports including analog 7.1 RCA. It also has USB DAC for music, an upgraded dual power supply and a new 6-layer main board. It supports all of the same disc types, file formats, and HDR formats including Dolby Vision and HDR10+.
It is built from an all-aluminum alloy body with a reinforced structure, which helps explain why the weight is almost double that of the existing UDP800 (8kg vs. 15.5kg). It is still powered by the MediaTek MT8581 chip and supports USB hard drives (up to 16TB) for playback of local media files.

As the overall market for optical video discs continues to shrink, we have witnessed big electronics brands such as Samsung and Oppo abandon the market while other major players such as Sony, and Panasonic have refrained from launching new UHD Blu-ray players for years. Instead, a number of high-end players for enthusiasts have been launched by new players such as Pannde, Reavon, and Magnetar.
The Magnetar UDP900 will be sold through specialty retailers. It will cost 2500 Euro in Europe, which is 900 more than the already-expensive UDP800. It will also be sold in the US where the price has not been confirmed (UDP800 costs $1600).
