Disney has announced three new Star Wars movies and confirmed release timings for multiple Star Wars series coming to Disney+.
The three new Star Wars movies remain untitled, but Disney confirmed that they will be directed by James Mangold, Dave Filoni, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, respectively.
We still expect two additional Star Wars movies from Taika Waititi and Shawn Levy, but it is unclear how it all fits together. Some other previously announced movie projects have been canned.
The company said the three newly announced movies will "span the past, the present, and the future".
Lucasfilm wrote that "Mangold’s film will be set at the dawn of the Jedi, telling the tale of the 'first Jedi to wield the Force.' Filoni’s movie will pull together threads from recent Disney+ series, while Obaid-Chinoy’s will be set 15 years after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, centered around 'rebuilding the Jedi Order and the powers that rise to tear it down'."
In Obaid-Chinoy's movie we will see the return of the character Rey (Daisy Ridley). Manigold's movie will be set 25,000 years before anything previously seen in Star Wars productions. Not much else was shared.
- "As you can see by all the television we've been doing, we're exploring a lot of different storylines. This really spawns from what George Lucas said years ago, that he created Star Wars to move forward and backward along a mythological timeline," Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy said. "Now we're looking to broaden that timeline, building a rich future, expanding upon the present, going deep into the past to tell our stories, and we're thrilled to be working with some of the best and most passionate filmmakers on projects that will span the past, the present, and the future."

New Star Wars series
Disney confirmed that the Ahsoka series, set after the fall of the Empire, will debut exclusively on Disney+ in August 2023. Lars Mikkelsen will play Thrawn. It also released a trailer which is embedded below.
Star Wars Skeleton Crew, starring Jude Law, will debut on Disney+ sometime in 2023 and Andor season 2 will be released on the streaming service in August 2024.
Another Star Wars series called The Acolyte will tell a story "from the perspective of the villains", set in the days of the High Republic. It will premiere on Disney+ in 2024.
That is a lot of Star Wars coming to Disney+ and a cinema near you, and we hope that Disney will soon paint a clearer picture of what to expect.
