Hulu will soon stop working on older Roku devices

15 May 2023 | Rasmus Larsen |

Like Disney+, Hulu is ending support for Roku 4. Unlike Disney+, Hulu is also ending support for other older Roku devices.

Hulu has confirmed the news in a message to Roku owners. Support will end on May 30, 2023. The streaming service did not provide a full list of devices but it apparently includes multiple older Roku devices including Roku 4.

Roku 4 (model number 4400X) was Roku's first 4K streaming player. It was launched in October 2015 so it received a little over seven years of updates and support. Apple and Nvidia's 4K streaming players from the same period still receive updates and support.

Earlier this month, Disney+ confirmed plans to end support for Roku 4 starting in June 2023, but currently Disney+ has no plans to end support for other Roku devices. Hulu is majority owned by Disney.

Hulu recently updated its support page to list supported Roku models. Check to see if your Roku model is listed there. You can find the version in the Roku Settings -> System -> About.
