The 800 free channels that came to Google TV last month will also make it to Android TV devices in the US over the next few weeks, according to Google.
Google's quest to streamline – rather than just software update it – Android TV to look and function almost like Google TV continues. This time by adding the 'Live' tab to the homescreen.
- "We’re excited to introduce the live TV experience on Android TV in the U.S. This new experience lets you browse free TV channels across multiple providers, organized in one easy-to-use guide in the new Live tab on your home screen," announced Google. "In total, you can browse over 800 channels, including news channels from NBC, ABC, CBS, and FOX. You’ll also find channels from around the world, with programming in more than 10 languages including Spanish, Hindi, and Japanese."

The 800 free channels come from Tubi, Plex, Pluto TV, Haystack, and Google itself.
You can save channels as favorites to the top of the TV Guide, and filter them by category.

The 'Live' tab on Android TV homescreen will be pushed out automatically via a server-side update over the coming weeks.
