Like Samsung and MSI, Asus will later this year launch a 49-inch QD-OLED gaming monitor with 5120x1440 resolution but only 144Hz as opposed to 240Hz refresh rate.
There is only one QD-OLED panel supplier so Asus will be getting the QD-OLED panel for its upcoming 49-inch PG49WCD from Samsung Display. The panel is capable of 240Hz refresh so it is unclear why Asus is limiting it to 144Hz.

The other specifications are similar. It is a curved 'ultra-wide' (32:9) with 5120x1440 resolution, HDR support, 1000 nits peak brightness (3% window), and DCI-P3 colors. Asus boasts 0.03 ms response time but does not specify the methodology. FreeSync VRR is supported.
Custom heatsink
It will be equipped with DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 ports as well as USB 3.2 and USB Type-C with 90W power delivery.
It also features Smart KVM to let you control two PCs dynamically with one keyboard and mouse in split-screen view. In addition, PG49WCD is equipped with a custom heatsink.
- "A large and efficient custom heatsink keeps this board cool without the need for a noisy, distracting fan," said Asus and added: "To dissipate it silently and effectively, we install a graphene film behind the entire panel. The thinnest yet strongest nanomaterial in the world, graphene has a thermal conductivity coefficient of up to 5,300 W/mk — a figure more than a hundred times greater than silver, copper, gold, or aluminum can offer. All told, the PG49WCD’s cooling solution allows it to reach a peak brightness of 1000 nits (across a 3% of the screen’s surface area with HDR on). Additionally, it reduces the risk of image retention."
Samsung announced its 49-inch Odyssey G9 QD-OLED monitor at CES 2023 and MSI teased its 49-inch QD-OLED late last year. All three monitors are expected to launch later this year once Samsung Display starts mass-production of the new 49-inch QD-OLED panel.
