Panasonic is adding several new gaming-focused features to its 2023 OLED TVs including a calibrated True Game Mode and G-Sync compatibility. It also partners with Blizzard for Diablo IV.
True Game Mode will be available in the 2023 Panasonic OLED models MZ2000, MZ1500 and MZ980 as well as the MX950 and MX940 LCD models. It is tied to the company's 'HCX Pro AI' processor.
- "To ensure every title looks its best, the new True Game Mode brings all the colour accuracy features available for movies into the world of gaming, while improved HDR Tone Mapping delivers source-oriented expression from the gaming device," explained Panasonic. "In addition, True Game Mode is calibratable and shows the Calman Calibrated logo after adjustment with Portrait Displays’ Calman Color calibration software – the de facto standard in the world of content creation, distribution, and playback. This means True Game Mode reproduces games as intended by their creators."
Three flavors of VRR
There are two HDMI 2.1 ports with 4K 120Hz support and for the first time Panasonic OLED TVs are also Nvidia G-Sync Compatible in addition to offering support for HDMI 2.1 VRR and AMD FreeSync.
Panasonic says that it has managed to reduce input lag, too.
Dolby Vision is supported for gaming as part of the company's Game Mode Extreme up to 4K60. MediaTek's Pentonic 1000 chip is required for Dolby Vision at 4K120.
A Game Control Board provides quick access to a menu with signal information and useful gaming features including a new RPG-optimized Sound Mode.
Official Diablo IV partner
As part of its launch event in Berlin today, Activision Blizzard and Panasonic announced a partnership to make Panasonic the official TV partner for Diablo IV, the new blockbuster game.
- "I can't think of many things in which colour balance is more important than Diablo IV. We have a very subtle colour palette. Creating something that feels like an old masterpiece requires the ability to portray this world in a very nuanced way," said John Mueller, Art Director of Diablo IV.
The companies said that more information on what this partnership entails will be announced at a later date.
